CICS-Cheng Family Scholarship for Social Services Studies

After serving the community for 56 years, CICS has become a recognized leader of the community services sector. As part of that role, we have a responsibility to build the sector to face the ongoing needs for tomorrow. With a generous $10,000 donation from the Cheng family, we are proud to announce the CICS-Cheng Family Scholarship for Social Services Studies. The Scholarship will benefit young people pursuing post-secondary studies in social services.

This year also marks the 15th anniversary of CICS’ Immigrant Youth Centre (IYC), the only Federally funded stand-alone service centre for newcomer youth in York Region. The CICS-Cheng Family Scholarship helps us celebrate this milestone of IYC while at the same time allows CICS to invest in the lives of those who will become the future of our sector.

Details of Scholarship:

Individual scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded to four successful candidates. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary study program related to social services in a recognized post-secondary education institution on September 1, 2024. Both new and returning students are eligible to apply.

A selection panel consisting of two members of CICS’ Board of Directors, two active community leaders outside of CICS and the Executive Director of CICS (or his designated representative) will be assembled to evaluate the applications and select the four successful applicants.

In addition to the financial assistance, the four award winners will also be offered opportunities to join CICS for their placement/internship requirements according to their programs of study.

Promotion and Presentation:

The scholarship will be promoted in the media as well as all of CICS’ regular promotional channels on social media as part of our 15th anniversary celebration of the IYC. The four scholarships will be presented in person by representatives of the Cheng family on September 28, 2024 during CICS’ Annual General Meeting.

Deadline for Application:

The application package will be available for download on May 28, 2024. Completed applications must be submitted to Scholarship@cicscanada.com by 5:00 PM on August 1, 2024.
